Bass Guitar Flatwound Strings

Roundwound flatwound guitar strings or bass (electric bass)?

What is the best choice? I want to clear highs and solid low sounding without all the noise of strings, fret noise and finger pain. I'm a clumsy player who also likes pop and starts. There is a wound surface that gives me the best of both worlds? Also strings that last longer? I play with my own fingers and an Ernie Ball Sterling.
