One of the most successful in Canada, exports Music, Rush, are currently touring to support the launch of their latest album Snakes and Arrows. Having cumulative sales extremely impressive on four successive decades, earning about 40 gold records and platinum to move an estimated 35 million albums the world, this trio of progressive rock is not showing signs of giving any of the above.

With Geddy Lee (vocals, bass and keyboards), Alex Lifeson (guitar) and Neal Peart (drums), Rush was successful as a constant in the music industry worldwide, and they have a rock solid since the release of their debut album, in 1974.

With a discography of them long ago, Rush has always been on the album, not the only one. An emphasis on instrumental skills combined with primary care lyricist Neal Peart for science fiction and fantasy inspired lyrics, has not always been specifically or pop radio friendly.

Nevertheless, they managed mark a number of hit singles over the years, including Limelight, Fly By Night, Tom Sawyer, Closer to the Heart, Spirit of Radio, New World Man, and subdivisions.

His music was popular as a coating material from bands as diverse as Catherine Wheel and Audioslave, Rush, and are often listed in the lists of other artist of musical influences. If you want a good introduction to the band and some of their materials more accessible, in 1990 two times the best CD release, Chronicles, is a very worthwhile purchase.

Over the years Rush has become cultural icons in Canada, even across borders to engage in the most unlikely of ways for a serious band, as parodies and comedy shows.

Geddy Lee with Bob & Doug McKenzie (the infamous Canadian brothers SCTV), had a hit in 1982 with her song Take Off, and the Canadian comedy series Trailer Park Boys features a character with a fixation Rush. A 2004 episode of the show was based around an appearance by Alex Lifeson, who was kidnapped at his hotel before a concert and forced to perform a private concert in the trailer park.

Rush have built a solid reputation incredible live performances and the band have released a handful of live recordings of the album to support this. Currently on tour across Canada, this month of October sees the band inject their special brand of rock to a European audience, beginning with several dates across the United Kingdom.
